Can I only apply for a THA home using the form?

No. Teesdale Housing Association is managing the Council’s waiting list and is able to nominate you to other Housing Associations that accept nominations from the Council’s waiting list.

What is a nomination?

Housing Associations are required to offer a percentage of their empty properties to people on the Council’s waiting list. When a property becomes available they ask the council to give them the person with the most points who has expressed an interest in that type of property. Once the Council has given the details to them the Housing Association will check that the applicant is eligible for the property and if they are they will arrange for the applicant to view the property. Some Housing Associations carry out a home visit to verify the details before they offer a property.

Can a Housing Association reject a nomination?

The waiting list changes on a daily basis as people apply with varying degrees of priority. The length of time depends on individual circumstances and on the areas you have expressed an interest. A list of recent lettings is displayed in our office and here (link) this shows the area of the lettings how many of each type of property has become vacant in the last year and the average number of points to qualify for each of the property types.
