About Teesdale Housing Association

About us

Teesdale Housing Association was formed in July 2006 following the Large Scale Voluntary Transfer of the housing stock from Teesdale Council. Together with Endeavour Housing Association, it became part of the North Star Housing Group.

Teesdale HA is constituted as an Industrial and Provident Society with Charitable Rules. The governing body is the Board of Management, which is made up entirely of volunteer members and comprises individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and professions, including tenants of the Association. The Board comprises of 12 members, 4 are representatives nominated by Durham County Council, 4 are independent members of the local business community and 4 are tenants of the association.

Teesdale HA owns just under 900 properties spread across Teesdale . Most of the properties are located in Cockfield, Evenwood and Etherley with the rest being pepper-potted across the rural part of the district and Barnard Castle.

2009 saw the completion of our first two new developments and we are very proud to be creating more affordable homes for our communities. Our development at Cotherstone provided eight new houses, four for rent and four for shared ownership. Our development at Evenwood provided a further six new homes for rent. All of our new properties have been built to the highest standard and contain energy efficient measures such as solar panels and green initiatives like recycling and composting facilities.

We have our own maintenance team of about 10 staff who carry out all the day to day repairs and some improvements works, including a HandyVan service which undertakes odd jobs such as hedge trimming for elderly or disabled people which are not part of the normal repairs service. The day to day housing management service is carried out by a small team of around 10 who are responsible for allocations, voids, rents and general housing management. Included within the team is a dedicated Resident Involvement Officer who works closely with our Tenants to ensure they are kept informed and involved in the management of their homes.

Surveys over recent years show very high levels of tenant satisfaction with the services Teesdale Housing provides and we aim to achieve continuous improvements by ongoing staff development. Teesdale HA values and supports staff to achieve their full potential via regular Personal Development Reviews and ongoing training and support.

We spend significant amounts on training and development and we take our time over recruitment to ensure we employ people with the right skills. This reputation also helps us to recruit and retain high calibre staff. Our friendly approach and relaxed yet professional culture makes Teesdale Housing Association a great place to work.
