About Teesdale Housing Association

photograph of three Teesdale Housing Assocation TenantsTeesdale Housing Association was formed in July 2006 following the Large Scale Voluntary Transfer of the housing stock from Teesdale Council. Together with Endeavour Housing Association, it became part of the North Star Housing Group.

Teesdale HA is constituted as an Industrial and Provident Society with Charitable Rules. The governing body is the Board of Management, which is made up entirely of volunteer members and comprises individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and professions, including tenants of the Association. The Board comprises of 15 members, 5 are representatives nominated by Teesdale District Council, 5 are independent members of the local business community and 5 are tenants.

Teesdale HA owns about 900 properties spread across Teesdale including one sheltered scheme located in Staindrop. Most of the properties are located in Cockfield, Evenwood and Etherley with the rest being pepper-potted across the rural part of the district. There are a small number of properties in Barnard Castle.

We have our own maintenance team of about 10 staff who carry out all the day to day repairs and some improvements works, including a HandyVan service which undertakes odd jobs such as hedge trimming for elderly or disabled people which are not part of the normal repairs service. The day to day housing management service is carried out by a small team of around 14 who are responsible for allocations, voids, rents, large scale improvement schemes and general housing management. Included within the team is a dedicated Resident Liaison Officer who works closely with our Tenants Forum to ensure tenants are kept informed and involved in the management of their homes.

We also manage the homelessness function for people who have no accommodation on behalf of Teesdale District Council which includes the provision of a homelessness unit in Evenwood. In addition we work in partnership with several agencies across County Durham to improve the delivery of countywide homeless services.

As well as housing we also work in partnership with organisations such as Surestart, Durham Rural Community Council, voluntary & community groups as well as local authorities on a range of initiatives.

Surveys over recent years show very high levels of tenant satisfaction with the services Teesdale Housing provides and we aim to achieve continuous improvements by ongoing staff development. Teesdale HA values and supports staff to achieve their full potential via regular Personal Development Reviews and ongoing training and support.

We spend significant amounts on training and development and we take our time over recruitment to ensure we employ people with the right skills. This reputation also helps us to recruit and retain high calibre staff. Our friendly approach and relaxed yet professional culture makes Teesdale Housing Association a great place to work and realise the full potential of staff.
